How long have you been a tribe member of CrossFit Lakás?  I became a CrossFit Lakás member the 1st week of June, 2014.

What made you decide to do CrossFit?  When I retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years, I told myself I will eat anything I want and  never exercise again. Fours years later, I had gained 30 pounds and could not walk up a flight of stairs without losing my breath. My wife set up an intro session at CrossFit Lakás as a Father’s Day present and told me to go check it out. I was embarrassed by the results of my baseline workout.  So I decided it was time to get my 45 year old butt back into shape. I started with three times a week for the first month, but I did not want to miss any of the workouts, so I upgraded to an unlimited membership.

What do you love about CrossFit?  The variety of exercises is great. Everyday the workout is different and I don’t have to spend hours developing my own training schedule. The trainers are motivating, supportive, teach proper technique, and provide correction when I need it. The scalability of the workouts, so even if I can‘t perform the Rx movement, I can scale the movement and still benefit from it. Finally, all the other members are honestly supportive.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit?  I have lost 25 pounds. I can walk up a flight of stairs two steps at a time and not lose my breath. During my intro baseline workout, I  was only able to do two strict pull-ups, now I can do 15. My time for a one mile run went from over ten minutes down to eight minutes.

Do you follow a special nutrition/supplement regimen?  I consume a scoop of protein powder with water pre-workout & another post-workout. I have been on a Zone diet for about 6 months.  I have been sticking to it about 80% of the time. It’s hard, because I love to eat food and drink (doughnuts & beer), so I have a tendency to over eat and eat unhealthy.

What is your favorite / least favorite WOD?

My favorite WOD is Diane (21-15-9 deadlifts/handstand pushups).

My least favorite WOD is Karen (150 wall balls).

What are your current goals at the Sweatshop?  Run a 7:30 mile by the end of May, do double-unders consecutively & consistently, do a muscle-up.

Do you have any advice to someone new at CrossFit Lakás? Show up consistently and put out a 100% whenever you working out; you will see results.
